Adblock Plus 0.7 Setup Tutorial

Instructions for the installation & setup of the Adblock Plus extension for the Mozilla Firefox and Seamonkey web browsers

** If you are upgrading from any versions of Adblock or Adblock Plus 0.5 you will have to go to TOOLS .... EXTENSIONS and uninstall ANY version of Adblock 0.5 or Adblock Plus 0.5 (if you have decided to use the EasyList as a default filter and have the Filterset.G updater installed, you can also uninstall that too)

Quick Adblock Plus installation using the EasyList, EasyElement, and ABP Tracking Filter subscriptions:

  1. Install Adblock Plus 0.7 (close & restart browser ... cancel 'suggestion' dialog box)
  2. "Click here" to add the EasyList (regular ad-blocking subscription)
  3. "Click here" to add the EasyElement (secondary element-hiding subscription)
  4. "Click here" to add the ABP Tracking Filter (optional tracker-blocking subscription)
  5. Done!

If needed, the static subscription addresses are:
EasyList:

EasyElement:
http://easylist.adblockplus.org/easylist-element_rick752.txt
ABP Tracking Filter:

Detailed ABP Installation:

  1. Go to the Adblock Plus 0.7 page on the Mozilla Add-ons site here:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/1865
    and click INSTALL.
After the installation is complete, close and restart Firefox again.

  2. You then should be presented with a list of ABP's 'suggested' subscriptions similar to this one:

You can select one of these if you'd like (the EasyList is here but not the secondary EasyElement filter) . If you would like to use both of my "Easy" filters ... or want to see the entire list of available filter subscriptions, simply CANCEL this dialog box and go here (all of the filters are 'one-click' installs there too). Just SUBSCRIBE to the ones you want:
    http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions
(ps: the ABP Tracking Filter is only available here.)

  3. After selecting a subscription(s), you can see them by going to ABP's "preferences".

All subscriptions in the preferences box will automatically start with the words "Subscription Filter:" at the beginning of the subscription title. These filter strings cannot be altered (but any single string or an entire subscription can be enabled/diabled). Any subscription can be deleted at any time.

There may be other filter groups that will NOT start with the name "Subscription Filter:" (Advertisement Filters, Element-hiding rules, Exception rules). These are YOUR filters or are left over from something else (there are a few 'examples' that are pre-loaded with ABP's install).  Any of these strings can be deleted if you'd like (the title will disappear once all of the filters are removed from that section). Any rules made by or imported by YOU will be added to one of these titles ... any subscriptions will always stay separate from your own filters. Importing or exporting filters also does so only with YOUR OWN filters.

Individual strings in a subscription CANNOT be deleted ... but they can be turned on or off as can the entire subscription itself simply by clicking the 'bullet' next to that filter and hitting APPLY (they will stay disabled even through subscription updates).
Do not try to delete a string in a subscription as the context will come up to delete the ENTIRE subscription ... not the string.

  4. I recommend that you set your Adblock Plus "OPTIONS" like this:

Now enjoy your new surfing experience without annoying ads :-)

Thanx to the author, Wladimir Palant, for bringing us this amazing Adblock upgrade.
